Your dream day begins early in the morning. LUX ANDES CUSCO’s private transport will pick you up at your hotel door in Cusco for a comfortable, safe two-hour journey through the beautiful Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo station. There, we will board our tourist train, where you will witness a fascinating change in landscape as towering Andean peaks gradually give way to lush high-jungle foliage until reaching the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).
Upon arrival, our local representative will warmly welcome you at the train station and personally guide you to board the official Consettur shuttle bus. We will ascend for 30 minutes along the famous, winding Hiram Bingham Highway until reaching the main entrance to the Historic Sanctuary.
The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived! We will enter the Inca citadel for a fascinating 2 to 2.5-hour guided tour. You will walk through the most iconic sites, admiring the flawless earthquake-resistant stonework and stopping at strategic viewpoints for the most legendary photos of your trip. We strongly recommend booking at least 1 to 3 months in advance (or earlier if you plan to travel during the peak season from May to October). The Peruvian government maintains strict daily entry limits for the citadel, and train tickets sell out very quickly. Not at all! Machu Picchu is located at just 2,430 meters (7,972 feet) above sea level, a significantly lower altitude than the city of Cusco (3,399 meters / 11,150 feet). The vast majority of travelers experience great physical and respiratory relief upon arriving at the tropical sanctuary area.
Train companies (PeruRail and IncaRail) only allow passengers on board with a small backpack or carry-on luggage weighing a maximum of 5 kg (11 lbs). We suggest leaving your main luggage stored at your hotel in Cusco (all offer this service free of charge and securely) and traveling only with the essential items for your day's adventure.
